Current Satellite Navigation System
The current Operational Programmes and their Limitations in Air Navigation.
Satellite Navigation in the Air Navigation Strategy
At the Air Navigation Conference in November 2012, the ICAO was asked to develop guidelines for deploying new technologies, procedures and operational approvals. It was also recommended that countries prioritise the implementation of Block 0 (see image below) according to their operational needs and highlighting that these modules are ready for deployment.
The following figure shows the expected evolution of navigation infrastructure, including conventional and satellite based systems. It also shows the expected capacities in the PBN and precision approach fields over the coming years (blocks 0, 1, 2 and 3).
