Recognition from the Royal Aeroclub of Spain for ENAIRE’s work in improving visual flight rules (VFR) operations
The Royal Aeroclub of Spain (RACE) has recognised ENAIRE for its work to improve flights under visual flight rules (VFR).
ENAIRE’s Director of Civil-Military Coordination, Juan Ángel Treceño, also received an Ícaro Award for the improvements made in his area for General and Sport Aviation in Spain
Specifically, RACE has awarded its Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) for the infoARES project for the VFR Insignia, an initiative that strengthens the modernisation process of AIS products aimed at VFR flights.
This project continues the progress made with the redesign of the VFR500 charts and the significant improvements to the VFR Guide in recent years.
During the 2025 Ícaro Awards ceremony held on Saturday, 28 June, Javier Fenoll, head of ENAIRE’s AIS Division, accepted the award.
In his speech, he expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasised “the key role of RACE, whose deep understanding of the sector’s needs has been crucial to the project’s success”. He noted how “their collaboration has been an invaluable help to ENAIRE in carrying out this initiative, which marks a milestone in the digitalisation and modernisation of communication with restricted aerodromes and pilots”.
Fenoll also underscored the professionalism and dedication of the AIS Division team, “the true architects of this change”, and thanked ENAIRE’s management for its strong support of the project through internal innovation awards.
The new version of ENAIRE’s Insignia application introduces a paradigm shift in the distribution of aeronautical information for VFR users. Thanks to the incorporation of so-called Flash messages, managers of restricted-use aerodromes will be able to communicate important notices and relevant information directly to general and sport aviation pilots.
More information about this project can be found at the following link to the new version of ENAIRE’s Insignia application.
During the award presentation, Javier Fenoll specifically highlighted the work of María Valdés, Carolina Bermúdez, and Paloma Cabezas, the creators and drivers of the project, “whose commitment has been key to its development and success”.
The new version of Insignia VFR represents a major step forward that ENAIRE will continue to promote to make it a benchmark tool for VFR flight planning.
Award for Civil-Military Coordination
At the same RACE gala, ENAIRE’s Director of Civil-Military Coordination, Juan Ángel Treceño, also received an Ícaro 2025 Award for the advances achieved in his area for General and Sport Aviation in Spain.
