The ENAIRE Foundation partners with the platform ‘Cómo ser fotógrafa’ to enhance the role of women in artistic creation
Margarita Asuar, Managing Director of the ENAIRE Foundation, and Marta Soul, President and Founder of the cultural management agency Cómo ser fotógrafa (How to be a photographer), have signed a collaboration agreement “to strengthen the role of women in artistic creation and continue to promote women’s artistic talent”.
This partnership is part of the ConCienciArte project, an initiative led by the ENAIRE Foundation to give visibility to art created by women — “an art that follows different canons and has long been silenced in the history of official art”, explained Margarita Asuar.
In line with this goal, and in compliance with Article 14 of the Spanish Constitution and Organic Law 3/2007 of 22 March on equality, the ENAIRE Foundation is promoting the ConCienciArte initiative to make women’s art more visible. The ENAIRE Contemporary Art Collection includes 1,300 works, but women artists are underrepresented, accounting for less than 15% of the pieces. In an effort to remedy this imbalance, the ENAIRE Foundation is developing a partnership strategy with organisations made up of women artists, with the aim of coordinating exhibition schedules and the works of the associated entities.
In the aeronautics field, the ENAIRE Foundation has also signed an agreement with the association Ellas Vuelan Alto (EVA) to highlight the contribution of women working in this sector.
“We are proud that the ENAIRE Foundation serves as a platform and springboard for showcasing the artistic work of women photographers, creating spaces for recognition and supporting them in their careers. Through initiatives like these, we are correcting inequalities in the artistic and cultural production and creation of women”, said the ENAIRE Foundation’s Managing Director, Margarita Asuar.
‘Cómo ser Fotógrafa’ platform
'Cómo ser fotógrafa' is a cultural agency and professional platform founded in Madrid in 2020 by artist and cultural manager Marta Soul. It is dedicated to promoting the visibility, professional development, and international presence of women in contemporary artistic and photographic creation.
It currently brings together more than 35 Spanish and Latin American photographers and runs an ongoing programme of training, research and dissemination that includes workshops, exhibitions, residencies, publications and professional meetings. Its work is structured around two main areas:
- CSF Training, focused on supporting photographic projects through talks, courses and workshops led by leading artists.
- CSF Gallery, dedicated to representing and promoting women photographers at fairs, festivals and institutional venues both nationally and internationally.
Its mission is to broaden the narrative of contemporary photography by incorporating diverse female perspectives, challenging inherited models of representation, and creating spaces for learning, inspiration and community.

About ENAIRE Foundation
Is a cultural institution of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that, in addition to managing, preserving and exhibiting the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, engages in a comprehensive annual programme of activities that focus on aeronautical art and culture. Notably, it is one of the institutions that currently provides the most support to photography through its annual prizes - which have become a benchmark for professional photographers - and by hosting exhibits.
It is the only foundation in Spain that combines the two seemingly disparate themes of art and aeronautical culture, bringing them together by undertaking a programme of activities that promote the study, research, knowledge and dissemination of aeronautical culture, integrating history and modernity to raise awareness of the world of aviation in our country.
The Naves de Gamazo are the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, an example of collaboration between government agencies that was made possible thanks to the partnership and joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Government of Cantabria, through the Office for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and the Port Authority of Santander, which share the operating expenses of the centre in order to ensure the present and future viability of this cultural project.
ENAIRE Foundation is implementing digital museum resources to boost the democratisation of art and make it accessible from anywhere in the world. These new museum resources are now available on the Foundation's website: https://fundacionenaire.es.
