ENAIRE managed 21,341 more flights than in July/August 2016
The company managed an extra 88,000 flights in the first eight months of the year
ENAIRE managed a record-breaking amount of air traffic in July and August, handling 21,341 more flights than in summer 2016.
The Spanish air navigation manager controlled 420,136 flights in these two months (+5.4% over the same period last year).
The day with the most traffic was 12 August, with 7,110 flights, followed by 5 August (7,099) and 29 July (7,098).
The number of flights managed this summer rose across all the ENAIRE ATC centres: Madrid (7.4%, 207,814 flights), Seville (7%, 76,936 flights), Canaries (4.4%, 55,597 flights), Barcelona (4.2%, 211,480 flights) and Palma (3.3%, 94,296).

Spain’s 7% growth in the first eight months of the year far exceeded the European average (4.1%) with 1,350,019 flights. Of these, 812,128 were international flights (+7.8%), 259,283 were domestic (+3%) and 278,608 were overflights, i.e., those that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport (+8.5%).
The recorded increase means that 88,000 more flights were managed than in the same period of 2016.
The cumulative figures for January to August across all ENAIRE ATC centres showed growth in the number of flights handled: Seville (8.8%, 254,728 flights), Madrid (8.1%, 725,825 flights), Canaries (7.7%, 215,248 flights), Barcelona (5.9%, 621,337 flights) and Palma (5.7%, 220,812).
