The Minister of Public Works announces a 12% decrease to ENAIRE's air navigation fee in 2019
With this reduction, in addition to the 3% decrease for 2018, ENAIRE will have one of the lowest and most competitive route charges out of all the main European air navigation service providers.
According to the minister, “this decision has been possible thanks to the excellent evolution of air traffic, and the efforts of ENAIRE in terms of efficiency”, allowing them to “carry the benefits over to airports, airlines and passengers”.
ENAIRE is currently undergoing its 52nd month of uninterrupted traffic growth. In 2017 it managed almost two million flights, 126,000 more than in 2016, with an average of 5,500 flights per day, and peaks of 7,000. And this year, in 2018, it expects to exceed this figure.
The results of a job well done
The minister highlighted Spain's growing relevance in the air transportation sector, which in the last few weeks has materialised in significant decisions like the one taken by the IATA, to select our country as the headquarters of its biggest global operations centre, or that of the European Union, choosing Spain to host the backup Galileo Security Monitoring Centre, Europe's satellite navigation system.
For Iñigo de la Serna, a large part of the success can be attributed to high-class rail, road, port and aeronautical infrastructures, which have made it possible for Spain to become the second biggest worldwide tourist destination, with 81.8 million international tourists in 2017.
Strategic Drone Plan
The Minister of Public Works took the opportunity of the opening of the Congress to announce the upcoming presentation of a Strategic Plan to develop the civil drone sector, as well as ENAIRE's Drone Application.
The challenge of innovation and the European Single Sky
Iñigo de la Serna listed the main challenges of air transportation for the next few years, including operational safety, operational efficiency, capacity, quality, environmental sustainability, technological modernisation, outreach and, of course, the development of the European Single Sky.
Global air navigation meeting
The World Air Traffic Management Congress is the major yearly meeting of the international aeronautical community. The forum, held in Spain for the sixth year running, addresses the main challenges of air transportation, and highlights the primary developments being carried out in terms of air navigation management.
The World ATM Congress, organised by ENAIRE, is promoted by the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), which brings together air traffic control providers from all over the world, and ATCA, the principal US association in the air traffic control sector.
Over three days there will be presentations, along with an exhibition that is open to the public, where companies in the industry will exhibit the latest air traffic control technologies and their products.
The Fomento Group is represented by ENAIRE, Ineco and Senasa, with a shared stand where they will demonstrate their most innovative projects.
