100% of the power supplied to all ENAIRE centres comes from renewable energies
ENAIRE, Spain's air navigation manager, has signed a new contract to have 100% of the electricity at all its air traffic control centres, its headquarters and other facilities supplied by renewable energies.
This contract, awarded to the EDP electricity marketer and valued at 9.2 million euros for the 2019-2020 period, renews ENAIRE's commitment to fight climate change and in favour of the environmental sustainability of air transport.
Since 2016, ENAIRE has saved 50,000 tonnes of CO2 by using clean energy
This initiative, contained in ENAIRE's Strategic Plan, 2020 Flight Plan, is part of ENAIRE's contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN's 2030 Agenda.
Strategy against climate change
ENAIRE's strategy against climate change, part of its 2020 Flight Plan, envisages the implementation of various activities that will help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions:
- Flight efficiency: it is estimated that 5.5 million nautical miles will be saved by designing more direct air routes in coordination with the Ministry of Defence. This measure allows reducing fuel consumption and harmful emissions.
- Renewable energies: since 2016, ENAIRE has purchased its electricity from renewable sources, which has translated into saving more than 50,000 tonnes of CO2.
- Commitment to photovoltaic energy and self-sufficiency in coming years.
- Measurement and control audits to improve energy efficiency.
