ENAIRE, finalist in the CANSO "Global Safety Achievement Award"
ENAIRE has been nominated to receive the "Global Safety Achievement Award" that is presented annually by CANSO (Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation), a global organisation that represents the interests of air navigation service providers.
Canso uses this award to recognise the operational safety excellence of that entity that has contributed significantly to reducing aviation risks in the last twelve months.
ENAIRE has developed its innovative NOM project, a set of tools to monitor operations in an effort to improve safety
ENAIRE has reduced the number of severe incidents in recent years and is ranked first in Europe thanks to its Safety Management System.
The nominated project, developed by the team consisting of Jesús Romero and Alberto Rodríguez, from ENAIRE's Operational Safety Division, is called NOM (Normal Operations Monitoring) and relies on a set of tools to monitor operations in order to improve safety. These tools include contemporary approaches such as "Safety II" (which consists of learning from normal operations in towers and control centres, as well as from incident investigations), and principles of systems thinking, resilience engineering and human performance science. These processes collect information from real operations that are eventually confirmed using big data tools.
This yields complementary methods for measuring safety that are more focused on a systemic and process-oriented approach. These processes, together with others implemented by ENAIRE, have helped to reduce the number of serious safety incidents, and led to more efficient intervention plans while providing greater support for the process of making safety-related decisions.
