ENAIRE Foundation partners in the exhibit ‘Tablada fue el principio’ (Tablada was the beginning), with 15 pieces from its collection of aeronautical models
The ENAIRE Foundation is partnering in the exhibit Tablada was the beginning, which will be held from 15 to 30 October in the Seville City Hall, by lending 15 pieces from its aeronautical model collection.
On the occasion of the centenary of the creation of the Tablada Air Base (Seville), the current location of the Air Force Training Department, this institution is carrying out a comprehensive commemorative programme, and, most notably, a thematic exhibition on the influence that the Tablada Air Base has had on the socio-economic development of Seville and Andalusia.
For this commemoration, the ENAIRE Foundation has selected the aircraft with the most ties to Seville. They include a Blériot XI, like the one used by Ian Olieslagers on the first flight in the Andalusian capital on 28 March 1910, the Airbus A400M, the final assembly of which is carried out in San Pablo, as well as the "Cuatro Vientos" and the popular "Triana", Saeta, Aviocar and CN235
ENAIRE Foundation's collection of hand-built models
In 1998, the ENAIRE Foundation purchased a collection of 20 hand-built models that showcased the history of Spain's aviation industry to date. The collection features small works of art that harken back to the origins of aviation in Spain, a country that had relevant designers and builders who made important contributions to the aeronautical industry, both theoretical and in aircraft manufacturing.
One of our pioneering companies was Hispano Aviación, which was followed by Construcciones Aeronáuticas S.A. From a young age, Marcelino Viejo Canalejas worked for both companies, and he had the idea and the skill to build scale models of all the aircraft types manufactured by these companies over more than half a century.
Since the purchase of this interesting collection, which has grown over time, the ENAIRE Foundation has cared for and displayed these models, and added to them, gradually adding new pieces to the collection to reach the current 32 models.
The work of the ENAIRE Foundation
The ENAIRE Foundation is a cultural organisation linked to ENAIRE. Its objectives include the fostering of aeronautical culture and the preservation, expansion and spreading of ENAIRE's artistic heritage. This heritage comprises a notable collection of Spanish and Ibero-American art, spanning from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day. It encompasses more than a thousand paintings, sculptures, photographs, graphic art pieces, works on paper and multimedia artworks.
