The ENAIRE Foundation begins its series of conferences in Naves de Gamazo, with a great turnout
The ENAIRE Foundation has launched a new series of conferences in Naves de Gamazo, its permanent headquarters in Santander, in an effort to bring art and aeronautical knowledge closer to the public. The initiative, which is part of the special programme of activities marking the centre's third anniversary, will continue through August.
Featuring various experts, the launch of this activity seeks to offer the public a space of reflection and inspiration, promoting their participation and interest in contemporary art and aeronautical culture. With this goal in mind, the first conferences - The origin of drones and María Blanchard, a painter in spite of cubism - looked back at the careers of two great Cantabrians of the last century: the inventor Leonardo Torres Quevedo, who laid the groundwork for today's drones by creating the first remote control in history, and Santander painter María Blanchard, one of the greatest examples of cubism.
The ENAIRE Foundation's Director, Margarita Asuar, expressed her satisfaction with how well this initiative was received: "We are always looking for new ways to reach our audience, trying to promote activities that, alongside the exhibitions, are appealing and diverse. That's why it's a pleasure to see how these talks are generating interest and attracting new visitors to Naves de Gamazo". In this regard, Asuar thanked the team that made it possible to hold these sessions.
The conferences will resume on Wednesday, 21 August, with the talk Aviation and progress by Ángel Sánchez Serrano, head of Historic Heritage at Airbus Spain. In it, he will discuss the evolution of the aviation industry - one of the first sectors to welcome women and which has a direct socioeconomic impact wherever it is present - and the numerous challenges it is currently facing.
On 28 August, the talk How to be an artist and not die trying, presented by independent curator Semíramis González, will close out the series of summer conferences. In this case, the session will focus on the importance of professionalisation in the art sector in Spain: museums, collectors, artists, professionals, etc.
The conferences, like every other activity at Naves de Gamazo, are free until capacity is reached.
The red tree of Gamazo
The ENAIRE Foundation, in keeping with its commitment to support photography, has launched the first edition of the "The Red Tree of Gamazo" interactive activity. Through Tuesday, 27 August, anyone, regardless of age, can submit up to three photographs related to Santander. The photos may be completed using complementary techniques: collage, cyanotype, lighting, preparation of the medium, digital processing and any research techniques that the applicant deems necessary.
The winning photographs will be displayed at Naves de Gamazo in September, coinciding with the hosting of PHE 2024 in Santander, and they may also become part of the photo album of the red tree of Gamazo. All the information on this contest is available in the terms and conditions of the programme.

About ENAIRE Foundation
Is a cultural institution of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that, in addition to managing, preserving and exhibiting the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, engages in a comprehensive annual programme of activities that focus on aeronautical art and culture. Notably, it is one of the institutions that currently provides the most support to photography through its annual prizes - which have become a benchmark for professional photographers - and by hosting exhibits.
It is the only foundation in Spain that combines the two seemingly disparate themes of art and aeronautical culture, bringing them together by undertaking a programme of activities that promote the study, research, knowledge and dissemination of aeronautical culture, integrating history and modernity to raise awareness of the world of aviation in our country.
The Naves de Gamazo are the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, an example of collaboration between government agencies that was made possible thanks to the partnership and joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Government of Cantabria, through the Office for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and the Port Authority of Santander, which share the operating expenses of the centre in order to ensure the present and future viability of this cultural project.
ENAIRE Foundation is implementing digital museum resources to boost the democratisation of art and make it accessible from anywhere in the world. These new museum resources are now available on the Foundation's website: https://fundacionenaire.es
