ENAIRE presents at Fitur its commitment to sustainable development of air traffic
A Lego workshop will be organised at the weekend to show children what air traffic controller's do
ENAIRE, the company of Grupo Fomento that manages air traffic in Spain, will present its commitment to society and sustainable development at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) after having registered a historic record of 2 million flights managed in 2017.
ENAIRE will attend this tourism meeting together with other companies of the Ministry of Public Works (Aena, Adif, Renfe and Puertos del Estado), sharing the stand in pavilion 10.
Environmental sustainability is one of the principal goals of ENAIRE's Strategic Plan, the 2020 Flight Plan, which sets the organisation's road map in its path towards excellence in a year of air traffic growth (51 consecutive months of rising traffic, i.e. 6.7% more flights in 2017, well above of the European average growth of 4.1%).
The Flight Plan 2020 sets important environmental challenges for the next three years in the horizon of the Single European Sky:
- Save the airlines 5.5 million flying miles, which is equivalent to 1,600 times around the world
- Avoid the emission into the atmosphere of over 191,000 tons CO2, which will be absorbed by 9 million trees
- Save 60,500 tons of fuel
More ecological
ENAIRE is set to achieve these goals by designing further direct routes, implementing green approaches -using less fuel by optimising its way of gliding- and streamlining start-up times.
By contributing to the reduction of emissions, designing quieter operations and taking energy efficiency on board, ENAIRE will become 13% more ecological in 2020.
Watching the sky from the earth
Visitors can enjoy the opportunity of “Watching the sky from the earth” from our green photocall and take a photo of themselves standing while simulating as if they were lying down. They can subsequently view it on a screen after uploading it to Twitter citing @ENAIRE with hashtag #FITUR2018.

The stand will feature a real olive tree that will be subsequently planted at ENAIRE's Air Traffic Control Centre in Madrid, symbolising the company's commitment to sustainability.
ENAIRE's space will also include an area simulating a natural park with videos explaining the company's environmental activity.
Art exhibition
The ENAIRE Foundation will be exhibiting the works of its last three photography prize winners (Filippo Poli, Ofelia García Medina and Tete Alejandre) at Fitur. These works have now become part of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art.
It will also be presenting Desde la intimidad, an installation of light boxes that will reproduce some of the works included in our collection. This project is carried out in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes, which throughout 2018 will take a selection of Spanish artists to the cities of Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Brussels.
The works reproduced are by Luis Gordillo, Luis Feito, Soledad Sevilla, Antonio Murado, Eduardo Arroyo, Iñaki Gracenea, Adrián Navarro and Nico Munuera.
Activities for children
During the weekend, ENAIRE will organise a Lego figure workshop for children of ages between 4 and 12 that will show them in further detail what air traffic controller's do.
A collective activity will be carried out by all the companies comprising the Grupo Fomento stand. It will consist in a simulated obstacle course in which four players will compete using different means of transport (road, railway, sea and air).
