The ENAIRE Foundation announces its awards recognising photography, communications in air transport and research
The ENAIRE Foundation, a cultural entity with ties to ENAIRE, announces its awards, which recognise photography, research, communications and other categories related to air transport.
2020 marks the 25th edition of these awards, the purpose of which is to promote aeronautical culture and motivate visual creation.
Five awards will be presented, and the entries must be submitted before 18 May, except for the photography award, which must be submitted between 24 February and 3 April.
- The Luis Azcárraga Award acknowledges work, studies or projects published in 2019 in any of the official languages of Spain or in English and that offer a major contribution to air transport in terms of planning and organisation, economic and administrative management, environmental impact and protection, as well as technological research and innovation.
It is awarded annually and it consists of a sum of 12,000 euros.
- The José Ramón López Villares Award recognises theses on air navigation or airports presented in any of the official languages of Spain or in English by Spanish authors and qualified in 2019 in Bachelor's or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, as well as in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering, at any University.
A maximum amount of four prizes will be awarded, each of them consisting of 3,000 euros: two projects about air navigation and another two about airports.
- Innovation Award in the Drone Sector, which recognises
those works, studies, projects, articles, technical publications, etc., that make a unique contribution to innovation in the drone sector, in the fields of aircraft design and aircraft system technologies (including propulsion, communications, control, etc.), drone production, operation, and traffic management, as well as the development of new applications.
By means of this award, the ENAIRE Foundation intends to stimulate the sector's competitiveness and the generation of new technological and operational concepts.
It is awarded annually and it consists of a sum of 12,000 euros.
- The Journalism Award for editors that have carried out journalistic works published in 2019 in any of the official languages of Spain or in English in newspapers, magazines, online platforms or broadcast on radio or television in our country. The topic presented must be related to air transport and navigation, as well as to airport facilities and services in general. Up to three articles may be presented per entry.
It is awarded annually and it consists of a sum of 12,000 euros.
- The Photography Award includes photographers that are residing in Spain or have exhibited in our country in the last 5 years. It recognises original works, either artistic or of free subject matter, that have not received any prizes in any competitions. Every author may submit up to three photographs. The awarded works will form part of the ENAIRE Contemporary Art Collection.
The works selected by the jury will be displayed at a show on the ENAIRE Foundation Photography Award, which will be held starting 3 June 2020 at the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid and mark the inaugural exhibition of the PHotoESPAÑA Festival. A catalogue of this exhibition will also be published.
12,000 euros will be awarded to the first prize, 8,000 euros to the second and 5,000 euros to the third.

The work of the ENAIRE Foundation
The ENAIRE Foundation is a cultural organisation linked to ENAIRE. Its objectives include the fostering of aeronautical culture and the preservation, expansion and spreading of ENAIRE's artistic heritage. This heritage comprises a notable collection of Spanish and Ibero-American art, spanning from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day. It encompasses more than a thousand paintings, sculptures, photographs, graphic art pieces, works on paper and multimedia artworks.
About ENAIRE
ENAIRE is the company of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda that manages air navigation in Spain. It renders aerodrome control services at 21 airports, including the busiest in terms of air traffic, plus en-route and approach control, from five control centres: Barcelona, Madrid, Gran Canaria, Palma and Seville. In addition, ENAIRE provides communications, navigation and surveillance services to 45 air control towers.
In 2019, ENAIRE handled 2.1 million flights to and from four continents (Europe, America, Asia and Africa), transporting 300 million passengers.
