ENAIRE and CERMI join forces to promote job opportunities for people with disabilities
ENAIRE, the national air navigation service provider, and CERMI (Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities) have joined forces to promote the employability of people with disabilities in the aviation sector. To this end, the book entitled “Potencialidades de la industria aeronáutica para la inclusión laboral de las personas con discapacidad” [Employment Potential in the Aeronautical Industry for People with Disabilities] was presented at the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda today, attended by officials from ENAIRE and CERMI.
This book, written by CERMI in concert with ENAIRE, is the first to specifically address the employability of people with disabilities in the aeronautical sector.
The national air navigation service provider will inform stakeholders and key players in the sector of any potential jobs
ENAIRE will inform its stakeholders and key players in the aeronautical sector of any potential jobs for people with disabilities.
The State Secretary for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda and ENAIRE's Chairman, Pedro Saura, wanted to congratulate the workforce of both ENAIRE and CERMI since "this tool, which is one more driver for achieving social inclusion, is the result of this collaboration". Saura stressed that "the government's main objective is recovery, but there can be no prolonged recovery if it is not based on inclusive growth".
Meanwhile, CERMI's chairman, Luis Cayo Pérez Bueno, highlighted that the most cutting-edge economic and business sectors, such as aeronautics, are "committed to inclusion (…) all their innovative potential, talent, creativity and transformation must also be used for social causes, such as the inclusion of people with disabilities". He also insisted that "the most sophisticated and technological sectors enhance and contribute to our collective improvement; they are benefitting by promoting cohesion and well-being". This report, he added, "seeks to unleash a spiral of inclusion in Spain's aviation industry".
ENAIRE's CEO, Ángel Luis Arias, underlined his organisation's commitment as a member of the Global Compact. He emphasised its contribution to achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda, as well as all the concrete actions, both internal to the company and external, that ENAIRE is engaging in to promote the employability of people with disabilities, particularly during these difficult times of economic crisis.
"Our goal with this report is to promote awareness and visibility of opportunities, so that all the agents throughout our value chain and across the industry can work together to guarantee social inclusion, by increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities", Arias explained.
Background
ENAIRE, the ONCE Foundation, Inserta Empleo and the Spanish Business Federation of Associations of Employment Centres (FEACEM) signed an agreement in December 2020 intended to bolster initiatives aimed at encouraging the employability of people with disabilities.
This agreement was a continuation of the general protocol that said entities signed in January 2019, aimed at improving the guarantees of rights and opportunities of people with disabilities and their families.
The agreement was signed by ENAIRE's CEO, Ángel Luis Arias; the chairman of CERMI, Luis Cayo Pérez Bueno; the executive vice-president of the ONCE Foundation, Alberto Durán López; the general secretary of Inserta Empleo, Virginia Carcedo; and the chairman of FEACEM, Daniel-Aníbal García.
The purpose of the agreement is to develop joint and shared actions aimed at promoting knowledge of disability, the employability of people with disabilities in the public sector, and to build awareness of the disabilities of public employees in the aeronautical sector.
Among the different activities included in the agreement, and focusing on these goals, the decision was made to prepare a study on the "Employment Potential in the Aeronautical Industry for People with Disabilities", presented today at the MITMA.
