Antonio Guerra, winner of the 5th edition of the ENAIRE Foundation Youth Photography Award at the JUSTMAD fair
The winner of the fifth edition of the ENAIRE Foundation Youth Photography Award was the artist Antonio Guerra (Zamora, 1983) with his "La luz que nos ciega" (The light that blinds us) project, exhibited at the JUSTMAD art fair by the Marisa Marimón gallery (Ourense).
The jury wanted to draw attention to Guerra's "interdisciplinary approach to the photographic medium, where he explores different layers present in the natural environment and his own visual imagery". It also wanted to highlight "his approach to nature and his concern for human activity, underlining the fragility of the environment in a nature full of artifices".
The jury members were Beatriz Montero de Espinosa, the ENAIRE Foundation's Managing Director; Ángeles Imaña Marcos, Director of Conservation and Cultural Projects for the ENAIRE Foundation; Semíramis González, Artistic Director of JUSTMAD; Estela de Castro, runner-up, 2021 ENAIRE Foundation Photography Award; and Pedro Quijano, coordinator of the ENAIRE Foundation's cultural projects, who was the secretary of the jury.
The JUSTMAD emerging art fair and the ENAIRE Foundation reinforce their commitment to photography through the ENAIRE Foundation Young Photography Award
"The light that blinds us" is a photographic project launched in 2014, where Guerra takes as his starting point the concept of nature to address the dissociation of myth and science and create a narrative on universal themes such as death, illness and pain. "The light that blinds us" appeals to the natural environment of rural areas in inland Spain as a space of symbolism and reflection to trace out a journey between scientific fictions, cluttered myths, reason and emotion, seeking out the edges of the natural and cultural space.
A prize that promotes professionalisation
The main goal of this award is to promote and incentivise the training of the award-winning artist and encourage his professionalisation by producing and presenting his work. In addition to supporting the production of the two works that will become part of the ENAIRE Foundation's exhibit at PHotoESPAÑA, the prize includes a follow-up process, including a masterclass in production with José Quintanilla, as well as a masterclass on the project with Estela de Castro (runner-up, 2021 ENAIRE Foundation Photography Award).
The JUSTMAD fair will be open to the public from 24 to 27 February, and is located at C/ Cervantes 42, 28014 (Madrid).
