The ENAIRE Foundation announces grants for 168,000 euros to preserve Spain's historical-aeronautical heritage

As published today in the Official State Gazette (BOE), the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, and President of the ENAIRE Foundation has signed the resolution for the sixth annual call for grants for the conservation of Spain’s historic aeronautical heritage.

One of the ENAIRE Foundation’s aims is to help preserve Spain’s historic aeronautical heritage. These nationwide grants promote the preservation of this heritage and encourage the dissemination of aeronautical culture by supporting entities that devote their efforts to conserving full-scale historic aircraft, whether airworthy or static, for public enjoyment and knowledge.

The recipients of this aid must be non-profit entities with tax residence in Spain that have a collection of at least four life-size historic aircraft. The aircraft can be in use, on the ground, undergoing repairs or overhauls, or static aircraft on display. They must also be on display to the public for outreach or information purposes, both in person and through a website, as set out in the rules published today in the BOE.

The total amount for this sixth call is 168,000 euros, distributed across four grants: the first, worth 97,000 euros, for the recipient with the highest score; and the remaining three, worth 54,000, 12,000 and 5,000 euros, for the second-, third- and fourth-place recipients, respectively.

The assessment criteria for the 2026 call will be as follows:

a) Technical criteria, accounting for 75% of the total score: Scoring table published at

https://fundacionenaire.es/actividad/convocatoria-anualsubveniones-aeronáuticas-fundación-enaire-2026/

The score received based on the scoring table will correspond to the technical or objective criteria, which will account for 75% of the total score. The Assessment Body will           weight the four highest scores and factor them into the final overall score out of 100% using the formula published on the website.

b) Strategic criteria, accounting for 25% of the total score.

Finally, the Assessment Body will assess the proposals based on the strategic criteria, such as the aeronautical and historical value of each collection and the financial effort required by each entity to preserve it; seeking to ensure geographical diversity in the public offering of subsidised projects across the national territory; positively assessing the sustainability of the projects and the commitment to environmental care in the proposals, and other factors. These will account for 25% of the total score that ultimately determines the order in which the grants are allocated.

The deadline for submitting applications is 30 days from the date on which the call summary is published in the BOE:

https://fundacionenaire.es/actividad/convocatoria-anual-subveniones-aeronauticas-fundacion-enaire-2026/.

Applications must be submitted electronically through the platform on the ENAIRE Foundation website:

About ENAIRE Foundation

Is a cultural institution of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that, in addition to managing, preserving and exhibiting the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, engages in a comprehensive annual programme of activities that focus on aeronautical art and culture. Notably, it is one of the institutions that currently provides the most support to photography through its annual prizes - which have become a benchmark for professional photographers - and by hosting exhibits.

It is the only foundation in Spain that combines the two seemingly disparate themes of art and aeronautical culture, bringing them together by undertaking a programme of activities that promote the study, research, knowledge and dissemination of aeronautical culture, integrating history and modernity to raise awareness of the world of aviation in our country.

The Naves de Gamazo are the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, an example of collaboration between government agencies that was made possible thanks to the partnership and joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Government of Cantabria, through the Office for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and the Port Authority of Santander, which share the operating expenses of the centre in order to ensure the present and future viability of this cultural project.

ENAIRE Foundation is implementing digital museum resources to boost the democratisation of art and make it accessible from anywhere in the world. These new museum resources are now available on the Foundation's website.
