The ENAIRE Foundation receives the “Best Institution” award from the “Blanco, Negro y Magenta” coalition of women artists
The ENAIRE Foundation has received the “Best Institution 2025” award from the “Blanco, Negro y Magenta” (White, Black and Magenta) coalition of women artists. José Antonio Santano, Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility and ENAIRE’s chairman, accepted the award at an event held this Friday at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid.
“Blanco, Negro y Magenta” is an association of women artists working in the visual arts around the concept of equality. Its core principles are the visibility of women artists, the denunciation of injustices against women, and the fight against gender-based violence.
“For an association as committed to the visibility of women in the world of art as ‘Blanco, Negro y Magenta’ to decide to grant us its 2025 award for ‘Best Institution’ is much more than an honour. I always say that awards not only flatter, they also come with responsibility. And that’s how I want to interpret this award”, José Antonio Santano stated as he accepted this award.
For the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility and chairman of ENAIRE, this award “recognises the work we do to promote art created by women” and “reaffirms the ENAIRE Foundation’s social role and our collaborative strategy”. In this regard, Santano noted the important contribution of the ENAIRE Foundation to the democratisation of art.

‘Concienciarte’
Santano recalled that, in keeping with this strategy, the ENAIRE Foundation signed a partnership agreement with the associations “Blanco Negro y Magenta” and “Mujeres en las Artes Visuales” (Women in Visual Arts), which resulted in the ConCienciArte initiative and the group exhibition of 20 women artists, “Me olvidé que te olvidaba”, held at the Naves de Gamazo Museum Centre to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s. “The success of that initiative is an incentive to keep working in the same direction”, stressed José Antonio Santano.
It is worth recalling that that exhibition was built around a dialogue between works of art, because sculptures, drawings, photographs, videos and textile pieces conveyed the devastation of memory and the pain of personal and family suffering better than words ever could. Moreover, the initiative served as a tribute to those who care for people suffering from Alzheimer’s, since they, too, endure the pain of watching their loved ones forget that they forget.
Finally, José Antonio Santano emphasised that the fight for equal rights and to showcase the art created by women “is not a temporary or passing trend, but a democratic condition” of our model of coexistence: “The art of women has been silenced for far too long. And now that the history of art is finally being rewritten to address this long-standing injustice and centuries of marginalisation, the ENAIRE Foundation is committed to continuing its active participation in this cause”.
Together with the ENAIRE Foundation, the association “Blanco, Negro y Magenta” honoured artist María Antonia García de la Vega with its 2025 BNM awards (“Best Ally”); Luis García Montero (“Best Ally”), director of the Instituto Cervantes, poet and writer; the television programme “El Intermedio”; Soledad Córdoba (“Featured Artist”); and Cristina Almeida, Paca Sahuquillo and Manuela Carmena (“Antonia Valero Award for Commitment”). The event was hosted by journalist and actress Marta Nebot.

About ENAIRE Foundation
Is a cultural institution of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that, in addition to managing, preserving and exhibiting the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, engages in a comprehensive annual programme of activities that focus on aeronautical art and culture. Notably, it is one of the institutions that currently provides the most support to photography through its annual prizes - which have become a benchmark for professional photographers - and by hosting exhibits.
It is the only foundation in Spain that combines the two seemingly disparate themes of art and aeronautical culture, bringing them together by undertaking a programme of activities that promote the study, research, knowledge and dissemination of aeronautical culture, integrating history and modernity to raise awareness of the world of aviation in our country.
The Naves de Gamazo are the first permanent home of the ENAIRE Collection of Contemporary Art, an example of collaboration between government agencies that was made possible thanks to the partnership and joint efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Government of Cantabria, through the Office for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and the Port Authority of Santander, which share the operating expenses of the centre in order to ensure the present and future viability of this cultural project.
ENAIRE Foundation is implementing digital museum resources to boost the democratisation of art and make it accessible from anywhere in the world. These new museum resources are now available on the Foundation's website.
