Jesús Romero holds a Master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and completed his final-year project at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He has extensive experience in air navigation safety and security, and has been Head of ENAIRE's Safety and Security Division since 2013. He helped establish and develop ENAIRE's Safety Management System from its inception in 2006, and had previously worked in engineering at the Madrid Control Centre and in satellite navigation, as well as for international technology consultancies.
In 2017 he received the Police Merit Medal from Spain's National Police and, in 2021, accepted the CANSO Global Safety Achievement Award on behalf of ENAIRE for its safety projects.
He currently chairs the CANSO Europe Safety Directors Group (CESAF) and EASA's ATM/ANS Technical Committee, and is a member of CANSO's Safety Standing Committee Steering Group and the Flight Safety Foundation's European Advisory Committee.
