Environmental assessment
Environmental assessment is essential to protect the environment, ensuring the prevention and mitigation of impacts arising from the implementation of new projects.
As Spain's air navigation services provider, ENAIRE is responsible for aviation infrastructure and equipment projects, airspace design and civil flight procedures.
Accordingly, ENAIRE assesses the environmental effects of its projects before approval. This is required under Law 21/2013 of 9 December on environmental assessment of projects, and Royal Decree 310/2022 of 3 May, which completes the regulatory framework for airspace and civil flight procedure changes.
Each project is approved by the competent authority, which differs depending on the type of project. Under Royal Decree 310/2022 of 3 May, ENAIRE itself approves infrastructure and equipment projects, the Directorate-General for Civil Aviation (Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility) approves airspace changes, and the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) approves new and modified civil flight procedures.
Below are the environmental authorisations and monitoring records for projects where ENAIRE is the competent authority and which have undergone the formal environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure required by Law 21/2013 of 9 December.
