- International flights, domestic flights and overflights were all up by more than 4% last month
- Air traffic growth in Spain in April was 5.3 percentage points above the European average compared with 2025, and 19.4 points above it compared with 2019, the pre-pandemic reference year
- Almost 740,000 flights have been handled so far this year, 3.5% more than in 2025
ENAIRE, Spain's national air navigation service provider, handled more than 220,000 flights (218,725) in April 2026, 4.2% more than in the same month of the record year 2025.
International flights (127,595), overflights—which neither originate nor terminate at a Spanish airport—(50,500) and domestic flights (40,630) were all up by 4.2% on the same month last year.
This 4.2% growth in Spanish air traffic in April 2026 against 2025 is 5.3 percentage points above the average European change (-1.1%). Compared with 2019, the pre-pandemic reference year, Spain outperformed the European average by 19.4 percentage points (ENAIRE: up 19.3%; Europe: down 0.1%).
Looking at control centres, and again comparing April this year with April 2025: Seville handled 52,221 flights (+7.7%); Madrid 119,356 (+4.8%); Barcelona 104,615 (+4.2%); Palma 33,293 (+2.8%); and the Canary Islands 35,597 (+0.2%).
Four-month cumulative figures
Looking at year-to-date figures, ENAIRE handled nearly 740,000 flights (739,096) in the first four months of 2026, 3.5% more than in the same period of 2025. Over the first four months of the year, overflights (179,375) were up 4.9%, international flights (414,490) up 4.0% and domestic flights (145,231) up 0.3%.
By control centre, year to date: Seville handled 182,958 flights (+6.4% on the same period in 2025); Madrid 426,699 (+3.7%); Barcelona 326,558 (+3.6%); Palma 77,168 (+1.2%); and the Canary Islands 148,229 (+0.4%).
Spain's cumulative traffic growth against 2025 is 2.3 percentage points above the European average (1.2%), and 20.8 percentage points above the European average compared with the same period in 2019 (ENAIRE up 19.5%, Europe down 1.3%).
