• This is the Foundation’s first time participating in International Archives Week
• ENAIRE Foundation will showcase its Virtual Reality Hub, Virtual Library and the Emilio Herrera Linares Archive at the Málaga Aeromuseum
Next Monday, 8 June, ENAIRE will present its Virtual Library at the Málaga Aeromuseum, where visitors can access a selection of documents from the archive of Spanish aeronautical engineer and inventor Emilio Herrera Linares (1879–1967).
Through this outreach initiative devoted to one of Spain’s most distinguished figures in aeronautics, ENAIRE Foundation is taking part in International Archives Week for the first time.
Since 2000, the Foundation has worked each year with the Spanish Air and Space Force, sponsoring the digitisation and preservation of archives.
In December 2025, ENAIRE Foundation signed its annual sponsorship agreement with the Air and Space Force Historical and Cultural Service (SHYCEA) for the preservation and digitisation of the Emilio Herrera Archive, contributing €42,000.
This work to preserve, digitise and promote the Emilio Herrera Archive is an essential part of the Emilio Herrera Exhibition Project, led by Spain’s Permanent Delegation to ICAO and ENAIRE Foundation, in collaboration with the Historical Archive of the Spanish Air and Space Force (AHEA), COIAE, AEE, other institutions in the aeronautical and aerospace sector, and historians and researchers such as Emilio Atienza and Carlos Lázaro. The Kingdom of Spain will donate this exhibition project to ICAO on 6 October 2026, and it will be permanently installed at the ICAO Museum in Montreal.

ENAIRE’s Foundation Virtual Reality Hub at the Málaga Aeromuseum
From 8 June, visitors to the Málaga Aeromuseum will be able to enjoy ENAIRE’s Foundation Virtual Reality Hub, where augmented reality headsets will allow them to immerse themselves in the Foundation’s exhibition Flying Lovers.
The exhibition forms part of the Spanish Air and Space Force’s initiative to mark the centenary of the Great Flights of Spanish Aviation.
“ENAIRE’s Foundation collaboration with the Spanish Air and Space Force is ongoing, spans a range of different projects and is now firmly established,” said the Foundation’s Director, Margarita Asuar.

About the Aeromuseo
The Museum of Airports, Navigation, and Air Transport, colloquially known as the Aeromuseo, is a heritage museum operated by Aena, located at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport
Opened to the public in 1997, it houses more than 3,000 items of cultural and aeronautical interest related to airports and air navigation facilities across the Spanish airport network.
With more than 27,000 visitors annually, it offers various educational programs aimed at promoting Spanish aeronautical culture and is open to the public free of charge.
Thanks to the support of Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport and the Friends of the Museum Association, the Aeromuseo has become one of the leading centers for the history of airports and international air transport due to the uniqueness of the exhibits it houses.
The Aeromuseo covers an area of more than 20,000 m², spread across five exhibition buildings surrounding the original Passenger Terminal designed by Luis Gutiérrez Soto in 1937—the oldest airport terminal building in Europe.
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is the oldest airport in Spain. It opened on September 2, 1919, to serve the Toulouse–Barcelona–Alicante–Málaga–Casablanca route—the second air transport route established in Europe and the first in Spain.
About the ENAIRE Foundation
The ENAIRE Foundation, a cultural institution under the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, manages, preserves and promotes the ENAIRE Contemporary Art Collection—a public cultural service connected with airport infrastructure.
It is the only foundation in Spain that brings together two seemingly disparate fields—art and aviation culture—and also runs an extensive programme of cultural activities on the ENAIRE Collection and aviation.
Since 2021, the ENAIRE Foundation has been running the Naves de Gamazo Arts Centre in Santander. The Centre is a model of institutional collaboration, involving the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Port of Santander and the Government of Cantabria—the latter through its Regional Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism and its Regional Company for Education, Culture and Sport.
The ENAIRE Foundation uses innovative museum resources as part of its digital ecosystem, promoting wider access to art and aviation culture.
THE DIGITAL ECOSYSTEM IS ACCESSIBLE WORLDWIDE VIA THE FOUNDATION'S WEBSITE.
