There were 29,576 international flights, a rise of 4.4%
The ENAIRE Control Centre in Barcelona managed a total of 47,203 flights in February, 3.1% more than the same month in 2016. 2016 was a leap year, so there was one more day.
All traffic segments rose. There were 29,576 international flights, i.e., 4.4% more; 11,003 domestic flights (+1.6%) and 6,624 overflights (flights that cross the airspace of the east of the peninsula and that neither start nor end in Spain) (+0.1%).
Cumulative figures
In the first two months of the year, the ENAIRE Control Centre in Barcelona managed 96,344 flights, 5.3% more, of which 60,174 were international (7.1%); 22,312 were domestic (2.9%) and 13,858 were overflights (1.8%).
The ENAIRE Barcelona Control Centre handles ATC and flight information for aircraft flying over FIR/UIR Barcelona in an area of approximately 300,000 sq km covering the east of the Iberian Peninsula and part of the Mediterranean Sea, including the Balearic Islands in the upper airspace.
Total flights managed by ENAIRE
ENAIRE managed 119,186 flights across Spain in February, a rise of 3.4% over the same month last year. It was the 41st month in a row of uninterrupted air traffic growth.
Growth was strongest amongst international flights, which climbed to 66,664, or 6% more than in February last year. They represented 56% of total traffic in Spain.
There were 26,298 overflights (those that neither start nor end at a Spanish airport) (+3.3%).
Traffic was up across all ENAIRE control centres: Palma (6.6%, 9,574 flights), Seville (6.2%, 24,340 flights), Madrid (4.3%, 73,297 flights), Canaries (3.8%, 25,638 flights) and Barcelona (3.1%, 47,203 flights).
The cumulative figures for January and February show that ENAIRE managed 244,907 flights across Spain, 5.7% more. Of these, international flights (137,132) grew the most, at 8.4%.
