- This fifth event focused on airspace users and customers in the Central-Northern Region
- The series aims to share perspectives, foster dialogue and build synergies among the various players involved in airspace management, regulation and operations
- The event featured speakers from ENAIRE, Aena, RACE, AESA, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and sector associations
ENAIRE today held its fifth regional outreach event with organisations from the general and sport aviation sector: the Real Aeroclub de España (RACE), the Asociación de Pilotos y Propietarios de Aeronaves (AOPA Spain), the Asociación Española de Pilotos de Aeronaves Ligeras (AEPAL) and the Real Federación Aeronáutica Española (RFAE). The event, held at the Real Aeroclub de España premises in Cuatro Vientos (Madrid), provided a forum for discussing issues of interest to airspace users and customers, and focused on this occasion on those in ENAIRE's Central-Northern Region. The event follows four previous outreach sessions held under the agreement signed in July 2023 with various associations to develop measures for improving operational safety.
The series was established to create a forum for dialogue among the various players involved in the management, regulation and operations of general and sport aviation, fostering collaboration, sharing perspectives and building synergies.
Over 400,000 km² of airspace
From the Madrid Control Centre, the Central-Northern Region manages an airspace of 435,000 square kilometres covering the Autonomous Regions of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Navarre, Castilla y León, La Rioja and Madrid, together with parts of Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and Aragón, and the maritime area of the Bay of Biscay and the Galician coast. The region serves the airports at A Coruña, Asturias, Bilbao, Burgos, Huesca, León, Logroño, Madrid-Barajas, Madrid-Cuatro Vientos, Pamplona, Salamanca, San Sebastián, Santander, Santiago, Valladolid, Vigo, Vitoria and Zaragoza.
The morning session covered a range of issues of particular interest to the sector: operational safety; airspace structure and its interrelationships; the safe use of electronic conspicuity; Aeronautical Information Services (AIS); the benefits of EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) for general aviation—the satellite-based augmentation system developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and EUROCONTROL; and the regulatory framework for aircraft used for sport, recreational and training purposes (ULM—ultralight motorised aircraft) in Spain.
Presentations were delivered by experts from ENAIRE, Aena, the Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Aérea (AESA), the European Satellite Services Provider (ESSP)—the certified operator of the European EGNOS satellite navigation system—the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC), the Real Aeroclub de España (RACE), the Asociación de Pilotos y Propietarios de Aeronaves (AOPA Spain), the Asociación Española de Pilotos de Aeronaves Ligeras (AEPAL) and the Real Federación Aeronáutica Española (RFAE).
Five events across Spain
Over two years, ENAIRE has taken this series of outreach events to all five regions of its network. The cycle began in the Eastern Region, at Sabadell, in March 2024. Months later, in September, it moved to the Southern Region, at the Seville Control Centre. In April 2025, the series continued in the Canary Islands with the third event at the Gran Canaria Control Centre. The fourth took place in October 2025 at Son Bonet Airport in Palma de Mallorca, covering the Balearic Region, before the cycle concluded in the Central-Northern Region with this latest event.
