• Scholarship-funded professionals from Equatorial Guinea, Uruguay and Cuba are currently completing work placements at ENAIRE
ENAIRE, the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) yesterday brought to a close another edition of the Master’s Degree in Air Navigation Services Management, run jointly by the three institutions and endorsed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The event opened with a welcome address by Enrique Maurer, ENAIRE's Director General, who outlined the most important new developments. He recalled the recent signing of the agreement establishing the ENAIRE Chair with the Polytechnic University of Madrid. “The Chair—he said—represents a very direct and tangible boost for this Master's; it was created to further strengthen the links between the university and the professional sector, to drive educational innovation and to facilitate knowledge transfer in an area as strategic as air navigation.”
The benefits of this initiative include the creation of an Alumni Club to keep alive the professional community formed with each edition, as well as the development of an educational innovation laboratory that will make it possible to gradually incorporate new learning methodologies. “The Chair will strengthen the role of this Master's as a meeting point for knowledge, innovation and professional experience, establishing it as a benchmark programme for training the sector's future leaders,” Maurer reaffirmed.
This edition has been enhanced by the presence of students from a range of countries and organisations, bringing a broader, more diverse perspective that is attuned to the real challenges of international civil aviation. ENAIRE’s Director General highlighted the Master’s international outlook since its inception and its recognition by ICAO’s TRAINAIR PLUS Programme. Last year, ENAIRE and ICAO signed a specific collaboration agreement to drive the ENAIRE-ICAO Developing Countries Training Programme, a training programme aimed at professionals from developing countries. The project forms part of ICAO's No Country Left Behind objective, contributing to international cooperation.
“A few weeks ago it was a pleasure to welcome to our headquarters the scholarship-funded professionals completing their work placements at ENAIRE, who come from organisations in Equatorial Guinea, Uruguay and Cuba. Their presence here reminds us that international cooperation is about people, careers and shared experiences, and being part of that process is a source of pride for ENAIRE,” he stressed.

45 instructors
The Master's has a high-quality teaching staff of 45 instructors, 23 of whom are from ENAIRE and 22 are professionals from the university, military and technology consultancy sectors. As in every edition since it began, the course featured masterclasses given by sector leaders such as the Director General of EUROCONTROL and Aena's Director of Airport Planning, as well as representatives of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and ICAO.
The event featured contributions from Daniel García Monteavaro, Head of the U-space Operational Development Division and a Master's instructor, as well as from students Jessica Suárez, an officer in the Colombian Aerospace Force, and Arian Florencio Noda Jiménez, an air traffic controller and Safety Manager at ECNA, the Cuban air navigation company.
A total of 25 students received their diplomas for the 2024/2025 academic year, while 53 completed the taught phase of the 2025/2026 edition and will now begin work on their master’s theses and placements at ENAIRE. The speakers highlighted the commitment and hard work of a student body whose professional backgrounds span ENAIRE, technology companies, professional associations, airlines, public bodies and international organisations. Through this project, ENAIRE reinforces its commitment to excellence in training, talent development and raising the international profile of Spain’s air navigation sector.
